About DBI

Inagurated by Dr. Manmohan Singh, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on Novmeber 22, 2004 and formally dedicated to the youth of Northeast India by Rev. Fr. Pascual Chavez, the International Director of the Don Bosco Society in the presence of Shri Tarun Gogoi, Chief Minister, Assam on February 28, 2005.
Established in 1991, DBYES co-ordinates and spearheads the Youth Ministry, Educational Services, and HR Development initiatives of the Salesians of Don Bosco in the states of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura and offers consultancy and training in related fields to the Central and State Governments, the Corporate sector, Institutes of Higher Education, National and Regional Organisations and Networks, and socio-cultural and human development oriented NGOs across all the states of the North East.
Don Bosco Institute is a dream realised by the Salesians of Don Bosco, Province of Guwahati. All dreams begin small, and so it did the Don Bosco Institute. Twelve years ago, when the Don Bosco Youth Mission and Educational Services (DBYES) began its journey, all we had in mind was to empower the youth of the region.

PM's Message

I am happy to be associated with this project that takes the benefit of vocational education to all the students of the North Eastern states.
Shri Manmohan Singh
Assam and North eastern states have lagged behind in the race for economic development. But there is no cause for despair. I believe, if we exploit and develop the tremendous human resources of Assam and North Eastern region, then, it is surely possible, as never before in the human history, to leap forward in the race for social and economic development. And one small example of how this can be done is being exhibited so brilliantly by the Don Bosco Institute.
We need education. But it is also essential that we impart to our children skills which make them productive citizens of our society. It is here that the work that is done by this Institute assumes great importance. This is one of the projects to which I attach great importance, because empowerment through the acquisition of knowledge is the only way in which those who have lagged behind in the race for social and economic development can catch up with the rest of the country, with the rest of the world.
What you are doing shows us the way to move forward. May your path be blessed.
Dr. Manmohan Singh,
Prime Minister of India.
